Top tier racing in 2016 saw Category 1 athlete’s race over a 6 event series, Carloyn Hayes came out on top for the ladies, with Kirsten Huysamen 11th overall. On the men’s side Ross Higgins came a very credible 12th chasing all those young training partners!
In the Club Series rankings, Limerick TC’s men came 6th out of the 71 clubs in the country, with our top 6 athletes NS points combined for scoring (Diarmaid Lane, Nick O’Dwyer, Dermot Hanrahan, Richard Chapman, Mike Heaney and Fergal O’Connor).
For the Women we were ranked 13th of 51 clubs – although only 3 of our women had the required 4 events to score (Angela Robertson, Anne Mackey, Niamh Yelverton, Audrey O’Dwyer, Sinead Walsh & Roisin Doran)
We came in 17th in the Mixed rankings – Piranha TC take the Vodafone Men’s, Women’s and Mixed title’s this year, but were chased by Cork TC.
National Championship Medals:
In the first draft-legal Mixed Relay Championships, which were staged at Belvedere House and Gardens near Mullingar, Cork TC finished just 22secs ahead of the second placed team Limerick Triathlon Club, which was made up of Kirsten Huysamen, Diarmuid Lane, Carolyn Hayes and Aaron O’Brien, earning them a Silver Medal and a place at teh Euopeans in Banyoles Spain in September.
Carolyn Hayes won Gold at the Sprint & the Aquathlon National Championships, taking Bronze in the Duathlon National Championships.
Our only National Series medal this year was a Bronze for Micheal Griffin( 65-65 AG).
Our own Kilkee Hell of the West hosted the National Championship Standard distance where Carolyn Hayes who took Second overall, with Age Group medals for Gary GUINANE (18-19 Gold), Dave BEARY (50-54 Silver), Liam LIDDY ( 50-54 Bronze), Murna GRIFFIN (35-39 Silver) & Aoibhe REIDY (35-39 Bronze).
The Middle distance National Championships (The Lost Sheep, Kenmare) saw Gold for Eugene Keane (65-69), Silver for Nick O’Dwyer (50-54)and Bronze for Sinead WALSH(45-49) & Niamh YELVERTON (50-54).
The first (we think) National Championships for Long distance, saw Liam Liddy’s Hardman performance rewarded with the AG Gold Medal.
