Attached is the breakdown of the FINAL points allocated to members in the Fly Shannon League 2016 after Race 11 – Worlds End Triathlon, Castleconnell . The club was well represented in Castleconnell. Congratulations to all members involved.
Male:
What a competition the mens league has been with the top spot changing regularly, right up to the final race of the season. Philip Cantillon was our early season front runner controlling the top spot for the first five races, followed closely by Dan Shanahan. The writing was on the wall however as Richard Chapman was slowly progressing up the leader board as the season progressed. Richard finally took the top spot after Race 6 and as the 5 Race points rule kicked in. Richard, our 2015 Champion, looked to have it all sown up taking a 6 point lead into Castleconnell.
And that’s where the season was decided! Just as Richard was about to order the open top bus, in stepped Diarmuid Lane to spoil the party. Showing his quality as a triathlete, Diarmuid did what he needed to do and take top spot in the Worlds End Triathlon. Richard fought all the way to finish one place behind and only 3 minutes after Diarmuid.
Congratulations to Diarmuid on a fantastic season and is a worthy winner of our Fly Shannon Members League for 2016. Special mentions to Richard who just missed out on the league top spot but should be proud of his season and is our 40-49 Age Group winner. Ed Fahy takes our 50-59 Age Group prize, Mick Garry wins in our 30-39 Age Group, Mick Griffin in the 60+ Age Group and Robert Gloucester takes our 20-29 prize. Stephen O’Donovan takes our Junior Age Group prize.
Male Overall League Winner: Diarmuid Lane
Age Group 60+: Mick Griffin
Age Group 50-59: Ed Fahy
Age Group 40-49: Richard Chapman
Age Group 30-39: Mick Garry
Age Group 20-29: Robert Gloucester
Age Group Junior: Stephen O’Donovan
Female:
Another great season for our Female triathletes and another very competitive league. Elaine Yelverton was our early leader keeping top spot for the first three races. Elaine was followed closely by Angela Robertson and Sinead Walsh in the early part of the season. After race 4 we had a new leader with Angela Robertson leap frogging both Sinead and Elaine to take the top spot. Race 5 saw Elaine take a 2 point lead over Angela again until Angela regained the lead after Race 6.
And that’s the way Angelas impressive lead remained right through to the last race in Castleconnell. Like our male members, the final race could decide our overall winner and with Elaine and Niamh Yelverton not competing, Angela was our deserved Fly Shannon Members League Winner for 2016.
Congrats to Angela on her impressive league win and congrats to Niamh Yelverton on her 2nd place and on her 50-59 Age Group win. Roisin Doran had an excellent season finishing third overall and taking our 40-49 Age Group win. Elaine Yelverton 4th place league finish means our club is in good hands for the future and is the winner of our junior Age Group award. Murna Griffin finished 5th overall and takes our 30-39 Age Group title for 2016. The multi-talented Niamh Carey takes 6th place and our 20-29 Age Group title.
Our 60+ Age Group title goes to Joan Griffin. Joan had an unfortunate season ending accident in Kilkee and would no doubt have been pushing for the league top spot otherwise. Joan is a huge credit to the Club, a huge inspiration to her fellow league members and everyone at the club wishes Joan a speedy recovery and all the success for the 2017 season.
Female Overall League Winner: Angela Robertson
Age Group 60+: Joan Griffin
Age Group 50-59: Niamh Yelverton
Age Group 40-49: Roisin Doran
Age Group 30-39: Murna Griffin
Age Group 20-29: Niamh Carey
Age Group Junior: Elaine Yelverton
