Massive congratulations to all who raced the Duathlon in Limerick today. On a wet and windy day in Limerick, there was a fantastic attendance and proves again, a highly popular event. 117 brave souls raced in the downpour at St. Enda’s Sports Complex.
The course was rough, a difficult cycle on wet roads with a strong cross winds and sheet rain. Cork TC’s Chris Mintern had a great race winning by over a minute coming over the line in 44:54. Second, was Darren Dunne from Nenagh TC and third, Cillian Tierney from GoTri TC
In the women’s race Becky Coughlan from GoTri TC won in a time of 54:12 with our very own Lisa Horgan in second and Denise Compton from Tipp Wheelers in third.
We had a number of clubs participating today travelling from near and far. Age group prizes went to Cathal Browne from Ennis TC in 16-19 age category. In 20-34, we had Lisa Kreitlow from GoTri TC and Edwin Sutton from Cork TC. Again, we had another lady from GoTri, Erin O’Donoghue taking first in 35-39 and Alan Kenny from 3D in same age category. Our very own Liz Leonard took first in the 50+ category and John Cahill from West Clare.

Huge thanks as always to our dedicated and committed sponsors, Castlecabin, Fitzgerald flowers for the fabulous flowers and Marcella from O’Neills Mace, for making sandwiches for us at on a Sunday morning even after her party on Saturday night.
Thanks to Rachel Deegan our MC for the day, to Darren and all in St. Endas, to the Red Cross and Gardai for all their help.
Thanks to Michael Collins, Race Director, and his committee for their support, to the Marshals aged from young to old(er)… out in the rain since 8:30 this morning helping out today. Thanks to all the athletes and their families who gave up their Sunday to race, support and cheer.
For many this is an introduction to multisport, while for others it kicked off the season. Here’s to a great year of racing ahead and hopefully, a bit of sunshine.
