Well done to all who raced the T.I. National Series Duathlon in Limerick today. This is one of the earliest races in the TI calendar and is organised by Limerick Triathlon Club.
There were a record number of entries with 204 entered to race, however the weather put off a few less hardy souls and 169 raced in the downpour at St. Enda’s Sports Complex.
The course was rough, a difficult cycle on wet roads with a strong cross winds and sheet rain, but that didn’t stop Irish Triathlon Aaron O’Brien. Aaron had a great race winning by over a minute coming over the line in 46:04. Second was Junior Darren Dunne from Nenagh and third Alan Kenny 3DTri.
In the women’s race Marie Boyle from Spiddel was in third but GoTri dominated the podium with Second place, Becky Coughlan and First place Anna Crooks. The race is the first in a series of inter cub races for GoTri, Ennis and Limerick so this puts GoTri out in front in the women’s.
Top Juniors today were Limerick’s Elaine Yelverton and Nenagh’s Darren Dunne.
We had over 27 clubs participating today with over 35 racing from our own club, noteworthy performances form Limerick Tri were Dave Beary second in his age group in a time of 51 mins. Lisa Horgan also showed true colours winning her age group in a time of 1:00:35, Brain Campion also raced well coming in 3rd in his age group in 49:14 as did Orla Power coming second in hers.
