Plans have been finalised for our annual Kilkee training weekend, May 31st/ June 1st 2104.
Led by our Club Head Coach Lynne Algar, the weekend will be of interest and benefit to anyone participating in HOTW itself, but will also be a valuable training for all members in the run into the season. All abilities will be catered for.
As well as Bike sessions, we will be incorporating The Pink Balloon run in aid of Action Breast Cancer, and the traditional swim across the Bay.

31st May | 10:30 | Meet at the bandstand: Coach briefing with regarding plan and objectives for the weekend and an brief breakdown of the HOTW course |
11:15 | Ride HOTW race route x 3 groups all coach led (Advanced, Intermediate, Beginners): Route will include a stop at 1-2 corners to demo and practise cornering, and prep for riding hills efficiently as poss. | |
13:15 | Transition practise An option for Novel or Intermediate levels to practise the race T area but also to learn efficient transition techniques including “the flying squirrel” and speed dismounts | |
13:45 | Coffee & Light Lunch @ The Strand or the Diamond Rocks Café | |
16:00 | Run HOTW route 3 coach led groups (Advanced, Intermediate, Beginners): This will be an easy aerobic run with pick ups to race pace for those running the Charity event. | |
19:00 | Dinner @ The Strand | |
1st June | 11:00 | Run Pink Balloon 10k: Coaches will be available to discuss and advise on correct warm up and warm down and strategy for running the race. Alternatively those not racing may do a tempo run (3 x 10min w. 2′ rest) on the route (recommended prior to the 10k race) |
13:30 (~tide dependent) | Kilkee Swim: Group will meet on the beach in wetsuits: Race entries and exits will be practised & a short (~500m) loop in the bay will be practised. | |
2nd June | 10am | Swim across the bay’: Optional group swim with safety support from Byrne’s Cove to the diving boards |
