Teams of 4 athletes each complete a short triathlon in turn( 300M swim, 5km bike & 1500M run) in the order Male-Female-Male-Female. This format was introduced the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.
Limerick were represented by two teams: Limerick Tri (Ronan Costelloe, Sinead Walsh, Ross Higgins & Shauna Doelken O’Shea) and Limerick Abu (Nigel Laffan, Edel Foster, Nigel Mann & Janelle Staunton)
On a fabulously sunny day, racing alongside 25 other teams including Triathlon Ireland HP athletes, including our own Carolyn Hayes, both teams put in excellent performances.
For Limerick Tri, Ronan came off the bike but picked himself up and handed over to Sinead for Leg 2. Ross Higgins made up a couple of lost places, and handing over to Shauna we were in 5th/6th. Shauna ripped though the field with her speed across all 3 disciplines and overtook the holders Galway within 200M of the line to claim victory and a National Title for the team!
