We are thrilled to hear that Carolyn Hayes has today been officially announced as a member of Team Ireland for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics! She will line out on the pontoon at 0630 local time on July 26th 2021
Carolyn, from Newcastle West, dabbled in triathlon while a student at TCD, but in 2012 when she came to UL to attend the Graduate Medical School, she joined the club and was introduced to cold and wet group spins from the Parkway, as well as out early bird swims.
She has come a long way since her first Hell of the West in 2013, (which was won by one of her current coaches Olympian Gavin Noble), going on to podium and win the event.
Carolyn went on to gather many National titles and race internationally, representing LTC at the mixed ETU Club mixed Relays in Banyoles, Spain in 2016
We watched with great excitement in May as Carolyn led the run at the World Cup race in Lisbon, to be overtaken by double Olympic medalist Nicola Spirig in the final 2km, to take a fantastic silver.
We wish Carolyn all the best for Tokyo and her Olympic adventure.
