You are invited to take part in the research for a Final Year Project as part of the Bachelor of Science in Food Science & Health programme.
The aim of this project is to determine habitual dietary intakes and nutritional status among recreational triathletes. In addition, frequency of physical activity and basic nutritional knowledge will be evaluated.
Your participation is sought to evaluate in particular if energy requirements are met by recreational triathletes. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary and you are under absolutely no obligation to participate in this study and may withdraw your participation at any time.
Participation involves recording your dietary intake and completing some questionnaires (3-day dietary history, exercise questionnaire). A urine sample is required to determine urine levels of selected nutrients. In addition, some anthropometric measurements will be taken (in a private setting) to determine nutritional status (body composition by BIA, height, weight, waist circumference). Measurements will be collected in one visit to the laboratory in UL. All participants will received feedback on their results once the final analysis has been completed.
Your participation is greatly appreciated;
This project is being carried out under the supervision of Dr. Eibhlís O’Connor, Department of Life Sciences, University of Limerick who can be contacted at 061 202 890 / eibhlis.oconnor@ul.ie for any additional information.
Please email expressions of interest in participating by Fri 2nd of Sept. Thanks!
