Ross Higgins competed extensively this season, having gained Cat1 status he competed in 5 of the 6 Super Series races.
He is first up to answer our 10 questions…….
What is your sporting background?
Competitive swimming; I swam with Kingdom Swimming Club in Tralee until 1999 and competed at a national level.
My best events were 50s and 100s but I used fall away even at 200s. Now, I’m doing events that last at least an hour!!!
How long have you been doing triathlon and how did you get into it?
I did my first few triathlons in 2009. I did Schull, Sive, the Little Bo Peep and the Fermoy triathlon in my first year and was hooked! Lots of friends that I’d swam with in Cork were involved in triathlon. They’d raved about it so I got a bike and gave it a go.
What’s your favorite discipline?
Swimming.
Which is your favorite race and why?
HOTW. It’s a well-organised race in a beautiful part of the country and always leads to a great night out afterwards.
Highlight of 2015 season:
Winning the Ennis i-Tri.
Low of 2015 season:
Getting chicked in the Joey Hannan Triathlon!
What is your preferred pre-race food?
Porridge.
And post-race treat?
Steak.
If you had the time or could roll back the clock what other sport would you like to pursue?
Cycling; I love cycling and I wish I’d started earlier.
What is your best buy (training aid/gadget/kit) you would recommend to another triathlete
A TT bike.
Thanks ross – good luck for 2016!
