About Us

“Pain is temporary, Club pride is forever…”
Limerick Triathlon Club is the longest running triathlon club in Ireland. Founded in 1984 by a handful of people we now have more than 250 members. The club has something for everyone; racers, rookies, juniors, seniors and veterans. The first event was held back in 1985 in St. Enda’s Sports Complex in Limerick, followed that summer by the first Kilkee “Hell of the West” Triathlon. This race soon became the club’s Flagship event and is oversubscribed year on year.
The club has really stood the test of time, many club members are with the club since it started in ’85, some athletes racing today are second & third generation members.

Founded in ’84 now 200 Members
We organise a Duathlon, two Triathlons, and a number of training and social events annually. The club and all races are run by volunteers and club members. While we know most of us love to race, volunteering is an excellent way to get to know people & helping out is good for the soul. We offer associate membership for those not racing this year but who would like to be involved.
Flagship events
Kilkee Hell of the West
The Kilkee Hell of the West is one of Ireland’s longest-running and most iconic Olympic-distance triathlons, organised by Limerick Triathlon Club and held every year on the last weekend in June. Known for its tough but rewarding course, early entry and accommodation booking are advised, as Kilkee is a popular holiday destination and the event sells out quickly.
Memorial triathlon
Joey Hannan Memorial Triathlon
The Joey Hannan Memorial Triathlon, organised by Limerick Triathlon Club, is one of Ireland’s most popular early-season races and takes place at the University of Limerick. The swim held in UL’s 50m pool, making it an ideal and safe race for all levels. The bike and run courses are relatively flat and well-marshalled, perfect for both first-timers and those looking to test their fitness early in the season.

Duathlon
The Limerick Duathlon is an annual event held at the Maguire’s Pitches on the University of Limerick grounds, it consists of a 4.6 km run, a 19 km flat & fast bike leg, then a final 4.0 km run. The event acts as a strong season opener with good competition and is well organised, with clear routes and strong participation.
Voluntary Committee
Limerick Triathlon Club is run by the members for the members. Annually a small number of members are elected to be on the committee. This committee relies on the rest of the club members help, feedback and support to organise the training, races and social events for the year. Being on the committee is an opportunity open to all members, and it can be very rewarding. If you are interested in volunteering your skills or time to the club – please get in touch.
