This is massive week in the club calendar – we are running the Hell of the West, this years National Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, incorporating a Cat1 Super Series race. Mark and his team have already put in countless hours in planning and preparation, and we look forward to welcoming 900 athletes to this legendary race. Not only is this event a showcase of the rugged natural beauty of the Loop Head region, it is an an entirely voluntary effort by the club, which generates revenue which is invested back into the club. If you are racing – good luck – especially if its your first time. We hope we will be well represented in the prizes!
We rely on volunteer marshall’s, and most are not from the club at all. So even if you are racing, please please give us a hand with set up Friday from 2pm and tidy up after you have finished, so we can all get to relax as soon as possible. The more hands on deck the faster its gets done.
If you are looking for something different LMSC are running a swim at Castleconnell BC – Tuesday 21st June the longest day of the year a family friendly open water dip will take place at Castleconnell. 7pm Kids Spash & Dash. 7.30pm loop 1km timed dip for the adults. This is a fundraiser for Castleconnell Rowing Club who’s Clubhouse as many of you know suffered extensive water damage over the Winter months. All are welcome and we ask the adult dippers pay 10€ on the night.
On Saturday Lexy Cremona will be taking on the Celtman Extreme Triathlon in Scotland – this is not your average Iron distance event – the organisers warn ‘you may have to endure cold water, strong winds, driving rain and difficult conditions on the mountain with low visibility’. For more see here
Challenge Galway is also running this weekend – good luck to Robert Gloster, Ian Moore, Darragh Moore and Garron Mosely are taking on the full distance – all except Garron for the first time. Andrea Cullen & Darragh Kelly are taking on the Half IM. (let us know if we missed anyone ! ) Good luck all #painistemporary
On Sunday we will be running our very popular Kids of West in Carrigaholt. This year it will take an Aquathlon format – see poster for details. This is a really fun event – come out and cheer, and help out if you can.
