This morning Ciaran Smyth died aged 70. He was the silent godfather of the Limerick Triathlon Club from the late 80s until just recently. In the early days when our membership was low (40s) and sponsorship scarce, he approached me and donated 2000 pounds annually . He asked for nothing in return. We used to call to his house with the only currency we had then ,Hell of the West t’shirts. Hence his children grew up influenced by triathlon. He was the founding director of PJ Matthews locally and was always a strong silent supporter of our sport. He is survived by his wife Christine ,son Melvin and 3 daughters Fiona ,Orla,Jenny. His son -in- law Noel Keane has continued the tradition of silent support. Our club lost a good friend today. (by Mick Griffin)
Our sympathies to the family at this sad time.
Late of P.J. Matthews and Cortober, Arva Co, CavanCiaran died (peacefully) at home, surrounded by his loving family. Deeply regretted by his wife and best friend Christina, son Melvin, daughters Fiona, Jennifer and Orla, sons-in-law Noel, Colin and Eamonn, daughter-in-law Jenny, his adored seven grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, relatives and his many friends.
Rest in Peace
