TT Week 15

After a total of 444 laps over 15 weeks, TT is over for 2010 and the results are in.  The success of the series relied on all the volunteers who helped over the 15 weeks, this ensured safety for all and as a result there wasn't a single incident. Looking forward to next year already.

Well done to the 34 participants tonight.  Although out of the running in the overall prizes our own Colm Turner finally cracked Alan Buckley's course record tonight by a mere two seconds with a crazy time of 20:45.  There was a great atmosphere tonight at the finish area, aided by the super warm evening, as we analysed those all-important times trying to figure out who had won in each of those multiple friendly duels that have developed over the series.

Photo Gallery here. Results here or if anybody is interested in results by fastest lap with time diff. click here.  On a quick summary for now the top three in each cat. after 15 weeks of TT are; Congrats to all.

Limerick Triathletes Show Form at Kilkenny, Kinsale, Wicklow

Fresh results in from this weekends racing in Kinsale (Sprint), Kilkenny (Sprint+Olympic) and 'Beast of the East' (Olympic).  In Kinsale the rain held off, a lovely day there really, where Tom O Donnell took category victory on the tough sprint course. It's not called 'King of the Hill' for noting!  An excellent result from Eoin Gamble placing  second in his category after ignoring doctor's advice to rest up after a recent ailment, but as Eoin said at the finish line 'Pain is temporary, club pide is forever'. Darragh Dunne finished with a top 10 in the race.  A very enjoyable race down there with credit to Cork Tri Club.  Amazing to see the ability of elite Bryan Keane who took Kinsale victory with ease. Kinsale results here. In Kilkenny reports still coming in but we hear that Niall Maloney had a great sprint event to finish a fantastic 7th in the overall results there, we'll post more on this new event as the news comes in. Kilkenny results here. Colm Turner put in another smashing performance in Wicklow to win 'Beast of the East'.  Colm also won additional prizes there for taking the quickest bike and run splits. Read his Race report here).  This event is reasonably new on the claendar and if you want a tough one this is it.  The cycle includes a couple of monstrous climbs with some athletes reportedly looking for climbing equipment to tackle the run.  Great reports back from our members there on the organistaion and efficiency of the event by Wiclow Tri Club.  Well done on good perfomances by Dave Richardson (9th) and Deirdre Kearney (with an amazing quickest overall swim time) whilst our other rep. Miriam Mc Cormack was hit with technical difficulties on the bike leading to early retirement. 'Beast of the East' results here.   Kilkee may be over but there's still plenty of excellent racing out there,  check out the TI calendar and see if you can get yourself into a few more events.

TT Week 14

Twenty people out last night to tackle what was a tough windy course  this week.  Some great times across the board but with that headwind on the way out we don't think any PB's were set.  Some of the scoring in the different cats is quite close now and will only be decided next week in what is our final week of TT.  Last chance to tackle the course is next Thursday at 7pm.  Current results are here.  Thanks again to Wanda for her photography from last night, photos will be posted here.

Deirdre & Paul are doing a Charity Swim

Hi all,

Saturday 21st of August myself and 12 other swimmers (one of them being my bro Paul) are going to attempt to swim from Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands to Doolin Pier in Co Clare. This is an open water sea swim which will cover 10km as the crow flies. However it's near impossible to swim in a straight line in the sea, so that distance is likely to be more!! The swim could take anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours depending on conditions on the day.

Limerick's Ironmen

Congratulations over the weekend to Limericks Ironmen who completed Roth in Germany on Sunday July 18th. Super performances all round on what looked like a great event with massive support.  We look forward to the post race competitor reports.  Enjoy the celebrations lads and we'll see you all at the track on Tuesday for Joe's 3km time trial!

Carna Results here Photoos here.  As if two races weren't enough to fill the weekend another contingent of the club were sent to Baltimore in Cork.  Mike O'Brien finished a super 4th in a strong field whilst taking age group victory at the same time. A very good performance from Louis Kelleher also with a top 10 finish .  The committee appreciates M.O.B's kind gesture in passing on his cash winnings to the club funds for the benefit of all in the club, nice one. Richardson hits a Top 3 in Ballina

Up and coming star Dave Richardson came a brilliant 3rd place in the Salmon run tri in Ballina at the weekend. With a fantastic swim and bike he was run into 3rd on a very wet and slippy course. Great result and hopefully more to follow from him.

Andree Walkin managed a very credible 10th on a day that the wetsuit and goggles could have stayed on for the full course!! Results are here

Turner & Ledger make it 1,2 in Cahir

Great performances in wet Cahir today at the second race of the 'Tri 3 Series'.  Colm Turner makes it three victories in as many races in today's sprint event, exiting close to the lead in the swim he quickly moved up to the front in the cycle after a couple of km's, leading the race from there to the finish.  Superb race and result for our own Alison Ledger also who put in a solid performance in all three disciplines to finish an excellent 2nd in the Female category.  Another notable great result came from Belpark's Limerick's own but somewhat confused Louis Kelleher (still wearing Belpark gear for some reason!) finishing second overall and showing great form this season.  We'll convert you yet Louis!.  Many more members, with great races, down there on what all agreed was a lovely sprint course in a great town.  Great day had by all and event is highly recommended. Thanks to the 'Tri 3 Series' team. They run their final sprint series event in Kilrush on September 4th. Results here. Gordon's Photos here.

European Champion

Limericks Newest European Champion

Mike Yelverton today came in first in his age group in a time of 1:02:38sec  and 4th overall in a spectular sprint finish in the european championship sprint distance race earlier today in Athlone.

Well done to Mike and all the Yelverton Family From All the Club

Also Joan Griffin won her age group and Lisa Horgan came third in hers. There were also some great performances from a number of Limerick Tri Club athletes including Brian Jenkins who fought back to  5th in his age group after coming in down in the swim and Dave Beary who finished 7th in his age group. A big crowed from Limerick headed up and there was plenty of vocal support for all the Irish athletes from the supporting Limerick crowd.
