For many years, the first Limerick Triathlon Club member across this line at Hell of the West has been awarded the Joey Hannan Cup. More recently, a second cup was added for the first Female member.
We are honored to announce that the family of Lynne Algar have kindly allowed us to use her name on this award going forward.
We hope it is a fitting tribute to our former member, coach. mentor and friend. Lynne died in March this year aged just 39. A much loved mother, daughter, sister and cherished friend, taken too soon. In true Lynne style she defied the medical odds and fought courageously following her diagnosis of a brain tumour 6 years ago.
Coming from a Tetrathlon background, Lynne joined Limerick TC while a student of Sport & Exercise Science at UL, later developing her coaching while pursuing a PhD. As well as coaching with us in the Club, Lynne ran the Triathlon Ireland High Performance Unit in Limerick, and their Emerging Talent Programme.
During all this time, Lynne encouraged and supported athletes, youth and women in particular, no question was too silly or went unanswered. Everyone was important to Lynne, it didn’t matter if you were lead or back of the pack. Her influence on the Sport will last for many years to come, her legacy we strive to honour.
