Limerick Triathlon Club AGM 2025 – Review & Plans for 2026

Limerick Triathlon Club held its 2025 AGM to reflect on a full year of racing, training and club activity, to acknowledge the volunteer effort behind all events, and to outline plans for the year ahead. The evening included updates from Race Directors, the Chairman’s review, a financial overview and presentation of the club’s annual awards.

Season Overview

The club finished the year with 187 members across race, training and joint TI/SI memberships. Activity across the season remained strong, with weekly training sessions, tours, races and social events contributing to a vibrant club environment.

Key club activities during 2025 included:

  • LTC Parkrun League (Autumn)
  • 5 km Swim Event (January)
  • LTC Duathlon (February – National Championship)
  • Joey Hannan Memorial Triathlon (April)
  • Cycle TT Series (May)
  • Hell of the West Triathlon (July)
  • Weekly club cycles and coached swim sessions
  • Annual Club League

Race Director Highlights

Each Race Director provided a short update on entries, feedback and plans for next season. Overall, participation and feedback remained positive, with significant increases for the 2025 Duathlon and consistently strong numbers for Joey Hannan and Hell of the West.

Duathlon 2025 – National Championship

Race Directors: John O’Sullivan (supported by Ollie Foley)
The event attracted 275 entries, with 214 athletes on the start line — double last year. Feedback highlighted excellent marshalling and organisation.

Joey Hannan Memorial Triathlon

Race Director: Richard Chapman
A total of 362 athletes raced across the Sprint, Olympic and Try-a-Tri distances. Richard is stepping down after an exceptional number of years in the role; Ed Fahy and Felix Randles will take over for 2026.

Hell of the West 2025

Race Directors: Mark Kennedy & Kristi Hogan
HOTW drew 330 entries (305 individual + 25 relay). Athlete feedback again placed HELL OF THE WEST among Ireland’s top races, with strong praise for the volunteer team.

Chairman’s Update

Chairman Dan Shanahan thanked all volunteers for their contribution across the season, noting particular efforts from Race Directors, the swim coaching team, TT organisers, and communications leads. The club’s success continues to be built on the work of these committed members.

2025 Highlights

Members represented LTC at major international events including:

  • Ironman World Championships – Nice
  • Ironman 70.3 World Championships – Marbella
  • T100 London (with age-group podiums)
  • Ironman Lanzarote, Ironman Portugal, Ironman Copenhagen and more

Finance & Governance

Treasurer Eric Rowan presented a stable financial picture with clear processes, committee oversight on key spending, and a continued objective to break even annually while maintaining reserves to support long-term club planning.

Planning for 2026

The AGM confirmed several updates for the year ahead, including a new PRO, expansion of the Joey Hannan RD team, continued development of club training opportunities, and planning for the 40th edition of Hell of the West, which will form part of the 2026 National Series.
