5km Swim Challenge *UPDATED*

Published by Communications on

Join us for an end of year challenge with a difference:

On Friday December 28th we will come together to each swim 5km or 100 lengths of UL’s 50M pool.

We have had a great response to our challenge, but to clarify some questions:

  •  We will have 4 lanes, with a group swimming in each – the group will do a TT format or ‘train’ swim
  • Starting in the order A-B-C-D-E-F, swimming at an easy pace after 100M / 2 lengths swimmer A drops back and the order is now B-C-D-E-F-A, after the next 100M /2 lengths swimmer B drops back and the next leader will be C-D-E-F-A-B and so the chain continues.
  • The pace will be easy, it’s a challenge not a race and we will be swimming so that everyone gets a draft – it’s 5km for everyone.
  • There will be a short break for each swimmer after their lead when you will have 30-40 seconds to get a drink before you go to the back of the chain.
  • We will have counters on deck to keep track, and ensure the chain stays together, but if a swimmer wants to drop out for 100M, that’s ok too – it’s a challenge not a race.
  • If 5km seems too daunting, we would be more than happy for anyone to come and aim for 2.5km, or a time target if you have one – just get on touch in advance as we wont be able to facilitate it on the date
  • It’s just for fun to set a personal challenge, and we will be raising a few Euro to help a friend

Limerick TC will cover the cost of the pool hire, and we are asking for a donation of €20 to the Benevolent fund.

If you cannot swim, but would like to help out, please contact Sinead:  walshsm@gmail.com

If you would like to contribute to the fund, the committee will gratefully accept any donations.

Advance sign up is essential to match the pace of swimmers, so please use this link.
