About Us

Limerick Triathlon club is the longest running triathlon club in Ireland.

Founded in 1985 by Gerard Hartman, Joan Griffin, Tom Barry and Michael Griffin with a lot of support from Peter Snow. The first event was organised in the spring of 1985 in St. Enda's Sports Complex, in Limerick, with approximately 30 competitors. This was followed that summer by the first "Hell of the West" triathlon, where approx. 40 athletes come from far and wide to Kilkee's East End, to compete in the gruelling triathlon, and dance the night away in the Atlantic Hotel.

The club has recently gone through a boom in membership with membership now totalling over 120 members. There are a wide variety of club training sessions organised to suit different abilities and needs. See the training timetable for more details. Every year we organise numerous races including the duathlon series, Joey Hannon Memorial triathlon and the "Hell of the West" triathlon in Kilkee which is one of Ireland's premium triathlon races. New members are always welcome.
