Richardson Wins Age Group at National Sprint Champs
With most club members enjoying the Kilrush event, Dave Richardson (pictured at 'Joey' 2010) was preparing for the National Sprint Championships at 'Lough Key'. Dave had a great race to win his age group and finish sixth overall. A strong swim (5th) and cycle (7th) but him into sixth overall which he then held onto for the run. Pro Gavin Noble, fresh from his Saturday win in Kilrush took victory but only by a mere second over Conor Murphy. Unfortunately we don't think there were any other limerick participants at the event but it might be one to consider for the future as it is reported to be a great race in an extremely scenic area. Gavin may be Noble but Johnny's still our King
A perfect day yesterday saw the holding of the final sprint tri in the 'Tri 3 Series'. It was a late start but this gave all competitors and spectators plenty of time to get prepeared and lap up some of the glorious sun. Returning from injury Lisa Horgan had a spectacular race to win the Ladies with a great result also from Laoise Griffin who finished third. Limerick also had success on the Junior front with Andrew O'Hara taking first in his category with a great time of 1:22. In the mens our dual member Louis Kelleher took third position, narrowly loosing out in a sprint finish for second. Louis also managed to win the overall series prize aided by yesterdays performance (next stop for him is the World Champs next week). Darragh Dunne finished fourth with chairperson Johnny Deegan having a great race to finish fifth followed by Cian Murphy in sixth (with the fastest run split on the day). The race was easily won by Pro Triathlete Gavin Noble who all assumed took all the quickest splits until the results show our own Johnny D with the fastest bike split overall, a call up to the national squad may be on the cards! Following on from his excellent result at the 'Brian Boru Triathlon' in Killaloe our developing triathlete Aaron O'Brien looked on form for another great result but unfortunately Aaron had to retire early on the run due to injury. As always congrats to all club members who participated in the event. Great organisation, lovely course, buzzing atmosphere, this event comes highly recommended for next season. Thanks to all on the 'Tri3' team for a great event. Results can be found here and Gordon's great snaps here.
Loughrea Junior Triathlon
Just a reminder that the Loughrea Junior triathlon is on 12th September, this is a lovely race as the swim is in a lake with crystal clear water, shallow swim, closed roads for the bike and a run through forest. See Predator web site for details

HILL CLIMBS
Weekend Tri Fun at Fermoy & Dublin
The first race this weekend was held in Fermoy. This was a sprint event with good attendance from our club. Congratulations to Andree Walkin who had her best race ever to finish as second Female. Well done also toMike o Grady and Niall Maloney who were the first Limerick athletes home in 10th & 11th positions. Check out all the Fermoy results here. Other members not competing in Fermoy were clearly tapering for the 'National Olympic Distance Championships' which were held in Dublin this year. With the swim in the Liffey (the clean section) followed by the cycle and run with laps in the Phoenix Park, the event successfully catered for over 650 participants between their main and supersprint events. David Richardson led the way home for the Limerick element, coming 23rd overall and 7th in his category amongst an extremely competitive field that included Gavin Noble who won the event. Great performances also from Mike Ryan taking 3rd in cat., Liam Liddy who took 4th in cat. and Mike Casey O'Shea finishing 9th in cat. Many more club members in Dublin with great performances also, you can check the dublin results here.

Great Performances at Half Ireman
It was the National Middle Distance Chmpionships in Groomsport, Co. Down on Sunday last and our members didn't disappoint. On what was a dry, sunny and warm day(but not too hot), Alison Ledger had what had to be her race of the season taking a third podium position in the National Championship event. In the male category Mike O' Brien with a strong race in general but a super run split (3rd quickest) powered through the field to a very impressive 5th overall. The challenging course (1.9km swim, 93km cycle, 21km run) which is famous for it's multi terrain run, through beaches, caravan parks, along piers, trails, sand dunes etc. put all through their paces and it was a tough day. Also in attendance form Limerick Tri were Darragh Dunne and Fergal O' Callaghan. The event was won by Brian Campbell who seems tobe back to top form once more. Results are available here. Some of the event was also shown on BBC, footage is here

Lynne wins Kingdom Tri
Following on from female victory in our club aquathon earlier in the week our own Lynne Algar had a storming race in Tralee today to win there in impressive style. The sprint event is in its first year and catered for a nice group from our club. An excellent performance once more in the male category with David Richardson taking third overall. Liam Liddy who is on super form at the moment grabbed a top 5 overall position. Michael Cussen had a great race to finish in the top 10. Results available here
Excellent Cat. finishes at CK Tri
A lot of members headed up Mullingar direction for the annual 'Caroline Kearney' Triathlon. This great olympic distance event has grown over the past few years and has become very popular with our members. With a large contingent from our club there were plenty of satisfying results. Niall Collins (even after technical difficulties) placed highest in 17th overall and 2nd in his cat. Just a minute down was our Chairperson, Johnny Deegan. An excellent race for Johnny won him 1st in his cat. Unfortunately as a result of Niall passing out our chairperson on the run leg of the event it seems he has broken strict club protocall and some form of disciplinary action seems inevitable. Have your say here. The Griffins also had great races with Laoise finishing 2nd in her cat. whilst mother Joan continues to dominate her cat. at most events with another 1st position. Mike Ryan picked up 2nd place in his cat as well as the evergreen Niall O Donovan picking up 3rd in his cat.Oh, there was one other very good result, but the guy isn't really a proper member so we won't bother mentioning it. Ah well I suppose we better. Louis Kelleher (Bellpark/Limerick?) had a solid race through all three disciplines giving him a great 8th position overall. Well done to all members who attended the well organised event and from what we hear it comes highly recommended and will definitely see a strong showing from Limerick again next year. Results can be found here
What Penalty should await Niall Collins following CK Tri antics?
