Weekend action May 12th

The sun shone on Valentia Island this year making a perfect day for the National Sprint Distance Championships.

Well done to all who took part especially those who came away with age group prizes:

Well done to Mike O Brien on win in Tri an Mhi

Mike Win

Congrats to Mike O Brien on great performance at the weekend, winning Tri an Mhi Middle Distance Triathlon.  Great to see the hard work paying off and could be one of many big performances from Mike this season.

Well done to Aaron O Brien who has progressed from youth to Triathlon Ireland Junior squad

Aaron has cemented his position on the Irish Junior Squad with two big performances last weekend. Showing really good controlled progression and self management of his training.

For this trials Aaron's trial distances doubled to a 400m swim and 3k run, as he has made the successful transition from Youth to Junior. Recording times of 4:21 and 9:04 respectively. A cut off of 155 points was required for Aaron to retain his position. He scored a hugely impressive 158. These times are in line with world class standards.

Open Water Swim Sessions

Open water swim session will recommence next Monday 14th May at 6.30pm in Castleconnell near the boat house. If people want there is an option for a run after. Bring two hats, its still a bit chilly apparently.

Majorca 70.3 & Valentia Sprint

While there are plenty of members heading south to Kerry this weekend taking part in the Valentia Sprint Triathlon, spare a thought for those travelling much further afield to tackle far longer distances than a mere sprint triathlon. Sinead Walsh and Cillian Murphy and a gang from West Clare Tri are making the trip to Majorca to take part in the half ironman 70.3 event. Let's hope the weather isn't too hot for them, not sure those in Kerry will have the same problem !!!

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Flexibility is a key factor in injury prevention and increased performance

Many athletes, particularly runners and triathletes move repetitively and are thus susceptible to shortening and tightening of soft tissue.

What causes restriction and sometimes pain?   -  The lack of health and flexibility of our Fascia.
